Emilie Lacroix, Ph.D., L.Psych. (she/her)

Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology UNB-Fredericton &

Co-Director, Maritime Eating & Appearance Lab (MEAL)

Dr. Emilie Lacroix is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of New Brunswick. She has been passionate about dismantling diet culture since she began working in the fashion and retail industries as a teenager. Emilie has since studied and trained in France, Germany, Brazil, and the UK, as well as Montreal, Calgary, and Halifax. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at McGill University, and her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Calgary under the mentorship of Dr. Kristin von Ranson.

Emilie’s current research is focused on three major areas: (1) comorbidity between eating disorders and substance use, and studies that can inform the development of integrated treatments; (2) disordered eating and body image disturbances in transgender and gender-diverse people; and (3) understanding patterns of service use among people with eating disorders in New Brunswick, to inform local capacity-building efforts. She has also published research examining the concept of food addiction, and the development of body image across the lifespan.

In 2021, Dr. Lacroix came to UNB, where she teaches courses on addiction and psychological testing, as well as the Honours Psychology and Basic Research seminars.

Alongside co-directing the MEAL team and teaching at UNB, Emilie also works as an independent consultant, using evidence-based insights to help businesses and organizations address issues related to body image, disordered eating, and mental health.
