Emilie Lacroix, Ph.D., L.Psych. (she/her)
Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology UNB-Fredericton &
Co-Director, Maritime Eating & Appearance Lab (MEAL)
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of New Brunswick. I’ve been passionate about dismantling diet culture since I began working in the fashion and retail industries as a teenager. I have since studied and trained in France, Germany, Brazil, and the UK, as well as Montreal, Calgary, and Halifax. I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at McGill University, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Calgary under the mentorship of Dr. Kristin von Ranson.
My research investigates barriers and disparities in access to care for eating disorders, with a focus on underserved regions, the experiences of gender-diverse people, and the intersection of eating disorders and substance use disorders. Additionally, I examine body image development across the lifespan and its connections to disordered eating and mental health. Using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as evidence synthesis approaches like systematic reviews and meta-analyses, my work aims to provide insights that help broaden access to care and dismantle systemic barriers to effective, evidence-based eating disorders treatment.
In 2021, I came to UNB, where I teach courses on addiction, psychotherapy, and psychological testing, as well as the Honours Psychology and Basic Research seminars.
Alongside co-directing the MEAL team and teaching at UNB, I also works as an independent consultant, using evidence-based insights to help businesses and organizations address issues related to body image, disordered eating, and mental health.
